Heartland Farm Mutual donates Personal Protective Equipment to Ontario hospitals

InkSmith and The Canadian Shield would like to recognize and thank the Waterloo insurance company, Heartland Farm Mutual, for making a generous donation to buy Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the frontline healthcare workers in the fight against COVID-19.

The donation has been used to purchase 3,000 reusable face shields from The Canadian Shield which will be distributed to eight hospitals across a broad range of Ontario.

“Heartland was built on the foundation and philosophy of helping communities, by sharing our donation with various hospitals, we are demonstrating that we live by these values” said Louis Durocher, President and CEO of Heartland Farm Mutual Insurance company.

The 3,000 face shields will be distributed evenly amongst the following hospitals in Ontario: Grand River Hospital, Woodstock Hospital, London Health Sciences Centre, Greater Niagara General Hospital, Belleville General Hospital, Huntsville Hospital System, Ross Memorial Hospital, and Windsor Regional Hospital.

The Canadian Shield, like the name states, is representative of the joint community force that stretches across the country as we combat the spread of COVID-19. “We are all in this together. We would like to do our part in helping in whatever way we can” says Louis Durocher.

“It’s because of donations like this that we’re able to get PPE face shields into the hands of healthcare workers as fast as possible” says InkSmith and The Canadian Shield Founder and CEO, Jeremy Hedges. “We are incredibly grateful for the businesses and corporations in our community that have stepped up to help in this time of need” Hedges added.

As The Canadian Shield continues to ramp up production to meet the demand for PPE in Ontario and the rest of Canada, they are hiring hundreds of employees to join their workforce. Positions include machine operators, assembly and packaging personnel, as well as administrative and office staff.

The Canadian Shield is proud to employ a local workforce that will be provided with a living wage, health benefits and access to catered meal services during their shifts. “Our hope is that we can play a significant role in addressing the equipment shortage while providing good-paying local manufacturing jobs” explains Hedges.

“We’re all in this together” Hedges echoed. “We would like to thank all of the organizations, businesses and individuals who have supported us through this journey. We may be in the limelight, but we wouldn’t be where we are today without the support of this community”.
